Archaeologists recently uncovered the tombs of a Pharaoh’s butler and scribe, buried under the sand for more than 3000 years, proving that Egypt still has many secrets and historical facts to reveal.
Antiquities Director, Zahi Hawass, said, “The sands of Saqqara reveal lots of secrets”. Some archaeologists claim that less than a third of the tombs and sites in Egypt have so far been discovered.
The discoveries were of a 4000 year old mud brick tomb which belonged to the scribe Ka-Hay and his wife, and also a 3350 year old limestone grave which belonged to a butler. The latter was found near to the site of Djoser’s step pyramid.
Back in December the mummified remains of a doctor were unearthed in Saqqara, along with his 4000 year old surgical implements. In October tomb robbers led archaeologists to the graves of three royal dentists.
zahi Hawass also revealed two wooden coffins, also 4000 years old, that were found to the south of Djoser’s pyramid. Within these rectangular coffins were human shaped coffins which contained the remains of a priest and his female friend.
