Amenemhat III - part 1

Amenemhat III was the 6th king of the 12th dynasty. There are no records of his mother, however, he was known to be the son of Sesostris III.
Though not certain, Egyptologists believe he was the father of Nefruptah and Nefrusobek (the last ruler of the 12th dynasty), both of whom should have been buried in his funeral complex at Hawara.
There is some confusion as to how long Amenemhat III ruled for. The Turin Kinglist suggests 40 years whilst Manetho suggests 8 years. It is possible that Manetho originally recorded 48 years and that this figure was misrepresented in future accounts.
Judging by the number of monuments left behind by Amenemhat III, the longer period of rulership seems far more likely. Either that, or he was a more prolific self promoter than Rameses II !
Having no sons he appointed a co-regent in his final year or two. This non royal took the name Amenemhat IV and went on to rule in his own name after Amenemhat III’s death.
